of the 'Sleepies' and dentist...

In a very rare turn of fortune, Sue Yi was behaving exceptionally well last Saturday. So we thought that we would take her to the shopping mall today. As usual, our little girl immediately got herself busy looking at everything and ooh'ing and aah'ing all over. Any self respecting baby will know that ooh'ing and aah'ing burns a lot of calories. Soon enough , our little girl was getting cranky and started to cry. Some milk got her to calm down a bit, (enough to get me and wifey through some one handed lunch) but she started again and wanted to be carried.

It seems that little girl was sleepy but the diva in her would not let herself fall asleep and drooling in public. So little girl put up a good fight with the 'Sleepies'.

But fight as she might, she eventually gave in after putting up a heroic battle, the little girl finally tuck her cace to my armpits and fell asleep.

I think there's something special about a baby sleeping in your arms (especially if the baby is yours - duh!). I mean I have patted Sue Yi to sleep on many occasions before but somehow this time it is different. Dunno why.

I am not sure if it's the releive of escaping the public humiliation of not able to handle a crying baby or just the sweet sweet look of Sue Yi sleeping in my arms, but it does really feel good. Really good.

Her face looks so peaceful. The rythmic breathing. The slight movement of her body trying to adjust to a more comfortable position.

Somebody just get me a dentist! She's just so sweet she's giving me a toothache.

of propaganda and tray...

Thanks to an overenthusiastic HSBC bank officer, we got to know about this thing called the Bumbo Seat. Us being the sponge that we are absorbed all the propaganda about the benefits of the seat and thought that we will really need it (else out Sue Yi will grow up deprived).
That is until we saw the price of the thing...
Anyway, cut long story short, we decided to get it anyway. Turns out that the propaganda have some truth in it. We found that the seat really has some benefit (for the price we paid, it better be). For one we can securely put Sue Yi down if we need her to remain on one spot for a while.
But Sue Yi would not be Sue Yi if she doew not complain. Somehow, she still like to twist and turn in it. To the point that sometimes it looked that she might dislodge herself from it and fall off.
And like all great purchases, one thing will lead to another. I saw on the bumbo seat website that there is something called a bumbo seat tray which is essentially a tray fixed to the seat.
I got a freind who is travelling to US to get it for me and she came back with it last week.
We tried that on Sue Yi and it seem to work. She seem to be more comfortable in the seat. I guess it's because now we have some place to put her toys so that it can be within her reach.

See... happy baby!

......and the propaganda continues......

of things that happen behind your back and double kicks...

Sometimes hor..... when you you are looking at Sue Yi, she will get all cutesey...

Then when you turn around...

she will give you her infamous double front kick...

when you thought you heard something and turn back to look at her...

she'll go back to her cutesey look...

of rough patches and milestones...

Sometime last week wifey asked me to feel Sue Yi's gums. She mentioned that there is a small pathc of rough surface on her her gums on her jaw. I put my finger there and sure enough there was a small rough patch indicating that there might be a tooth underneath the skin.

Then fast forward to last Friday, during one of Sue Yi's heartwrenching rendition of her famous cry in C minor, I saw two slightly whitish and greyish patched on her gums. So I guess Sue Yi have hit amother milestone. I told my mom just now and she said that mow is about time that her teeth start to come out.

So looks like other than grabbing everything within her reach and tasting them, Sue Yi, will also be leaving her tooth mark on them.

Nope, this is not my attempt to show you the two patches, just a random photo filed under "Photos to show Sophie's potential boyfriend if she does not behaves"

of help and prayers needed...

As this blog is kinda like a journal for Sophie to read when she grows up, I tend to fill it with things that I think she will enjoy. But sometimes I have to make some exceptions and this is one of them. I heard something that saddens me in church last Sunday. My pastor had a son who is about a year plus old. Apparently his brain was infected with some kind of germs that cause it to deteriorate. It has been a few months now since it happened. They even took him to the neurosurgeon in KL for treatment and was warded there for quite sometime. Recently they brought him back to Penang as his condition stabilized. The last update from my Pastor is that his son have to re learn to all the basic skills all over again due to the damage to his brain. And we thought that he was back on his way to recovery.
Then came the latest news, Pastor gave us some updates. His son’s fits seem to have came back. He also shared that he and his wife took his son to see another doctor for a second opinion. According to the him, the doctor told his wife something to the effect of whatever his son wants to do, do it for him or whatever his son wants to eat give it to him. In short something like try to make him happier. Doctor said that the brain damage is very severe and there is little chance.
I felt so sad when I heard it. Somehow the feeling of hopelessness seems to bug me. My pastor cried halfway through his sharing but somehow I can sense his strength. Even through all that had happened he still was able to serve in church and taking care of everything. Most of all he still praise God after all that had happened to him.
So I only have one favour to ask if you have the time. Do pray for my pastor and his son. His son’s name is Isaac. If you are not a praying kind of person, but felt touched by this, do think of them and wish them well in your own ways.

of letters and six months...

Dear Sophie,
Today you turn six month old, halfway mark to 1 year. It’s hard to believe that it has been six months now since you came into our lives. I have seen you grown day to day and have really attached to you. Sometimes I do wonder how we had ever gone by without you.
This evening when mommy brought you back from the baby sitter, you were wearing one of your older and smaller pants. They seem to fit so tight as if you were wearing tights. It’s a wonder that merely four to five months ago, mommy and I were talking about how all your clothes seemed to be so loose fitting because they were hand me downs or bought at a size too big. And now you have started to outgrowm your clothes.
You are still the naughty little girl who refuse to drink your milk and cries in the evening. I guess that’s just your temperament, that when you want something (or don’t want something) you make it crystal clear. At times you do test our patience but I know that you are just trying to be yourself so I guess I’ll let it slide.
Your hands and feet are more coordinated now and you are able to reach out and grad things that caught your interest. To our relief too is that you are able to hold up your head when you lie on your stomach instead of slamming your head down.
You are a curious girl and like to explore things around you. Anything that you can get hold of, you will put it in your mouth and for those that you are not able to pull close enough to your mouth, your tongue will reach out to taste. Your current favorites are your fingers and toes. Occarionally you do get mommy’s thumb but that is only when you are fast enough.
We are also beginning to see more of your traits. One thing for sure id that you like to talk. You talk when you drink your milk, you talk when you eat your cereal, you talk when you are lying in bed, you talk when you are eating your fingers, you talk when you play with your toys and sometimes you also talk when you are doing nothing. So I guess it goes without saying that you will be a very talkative person which will be cool because I guess we will spend quality time talking instead of wasting money on buying video games.
But what I really wanna say is that these six months have been the most fulfilling time of my life and I look forward for more or it.

Love
daddy
